"Oh, deary! Are you ok?" A gooy voice asked. Laura looked behind her at the shop counter where a strange being stood. Laura though it might be female because of the voice and body. The lady looked like  a green lava lamp under green translucent skin and as squishy as as gummy bear. She was a large, round, green, lava lamp, lady.
"Uh, I'm fine. Just got pushed." Laura did well at not starring at the lady, she thought, and noticed that she was in a bakery, or at least she thought it was a bakery. The lady gave a look that could have been sympathetic and said,
"Are you new to the Foundplace honey?" Laura stood up so she didn't look as much like an idiot.
"Um, I guess?"
"Come over hear and lets talk then. I know how scary it can be." Laura cautiously followed the lady to a back room, as the lady called something, causing a smaller version of the lady came in to be told to go up front.
"My name is Ega Gobx. Where to start, where to start...." she said as she sat Laura down and found herself a seat.
"Oh yeah! I forgot to ask, what's your name honey?"
"Laura. You said something about a found place?"
"Laura! What a pretty name! Oh, yes. This world is called the Foundplace. People who become lost to their own universe often find themselves here. I was lost and so were a lot of others you meet. Fortunately a nice human man explained things to me." Ega Gobx's voice became ridiculously dramatic and romantic as if she were telling a story of true love.
"I had been looking for a shop that sold the prettiest flowers when I became lost. I found myself wondering a desolate land instead of the lush land of my home! I was have surly died had he not found me! He was a handsome and kind human. His name was Dawn!" Ega proclaimed. "I was on the brink of death when he rescued me and explained everything. He lead me here: Fell Crest City in the province of Newfound. The home of many others who also became lost as we did. But the lost came together and formed Fell Crest! Haven for the lost and home for the found!" Laura felt sure the Ega was embellishing the truth to make it sound more dramatic, but that didn't stop it from sounding dramatic none the less. "Oh, but I'm being rude, how did you come to the Foundplace honey?"
"Um, well." Laura felt the memory of her mistake push it's self up front and damned her curiosity. She should have known; women in fairy tails are never rewarded for curiosity, only punished. Laura took a calming breath and decided that she should talk about what happen. It might make it a little easier to deal with and she might even get help.
"Some friends and I had been playing back home," back home, strange how that seemed so long ago. "I saw something strange between two trees so we went to take a look at what it was. It turns out it was a portal to a being called Mael." and had I not gone over there my friends would all be alive so it's partially my fault for what Mael did. "H-he..." the next word felt difficult for her to say, as if she might burst into tears again just for speaking of what happened. "He tortured and killed my friends. The only reason I'm not dead yet is because we made a deal: I get three days to rest and prepare, but after he will actively find ways to make me suffer until I die." Laura's heart felt heavy with the burden she carried. She owed it to her friends to survive and to her self as well.
"Oh honey..." Ega's gooy voice crooned like a mother.
Silence wrapped the room like a corpse veil, and time seemed to forget how to move forward for an unknown amount of time.
"Everyone knows about that man and his evil ways." Ega spat with distaste. "Oh, if I was a stronger and more violent person I would....would....would kick his little smiling face back to where ever he came from!" Ega declared, trying to sound tough but coming across sounding more like a small dog trying to act like a wolf. The result was ridicules enough to make Laura smile at Ega's protective act.
"So how come no one's done anything about him?"
"Oh people have. Regular everyday people like you and me, but that...that beast! Mael, he tortured those poor people who tried. So eventually the matter was brought up with the Council. But they can only do so much with that monster in control of Newfound. The Council has to be careful in their dealings with the three major Premiers if their going to keep balance. Oh! I know! You should go to the human district and talk to Dawn! I bet he could help bring your problem to the Council! Ega went all romantic again.
"My handsome, brave, human.... You know it's actually rather trendy to look more human among us Gmuxz. Our district has treaty with the human district. We help protect each other, we do. But we Gmuxz really find human culture real neat!" Ega's enthusiasm and the fact that human qualities were fashionable came as a surprise to Laura.
It seem both strange and silly to her yet it...worked?....Laura didn't know. She found that she didn't know a lot more and more. She knew she was ignorant of a lot of things in life, but the scope of how much was enough to make Laura feel....ignorant.
"I'm actually considered to be quite beautiful among me species." Ega's voice pulled Laura out of her thoughts. Ega flourished her arm as if to say take-a-look-at-this-hot-piece-of-work. Laura couldn't help but smiled at Ega's large girth and  body that moved like jello every time she moved in what was supposed to be attractive poses. Laura had to stop her self from laughing so she didn't come across rude.
"There now, you have a pretty smile on your face. You must be feeling better. You look so much prettier when you smile, honey." Ega was being motherly again. "Are you hungry? You wont need to worry, my bakery has things humans can eat too. I'll go get you something that'll fill you up! You just stay there." Ega bounced out of the room for several minutes before coming back with something that looked a little like a potpie and a green bag with the store's logo, a jello-y cupcake thing that said something in another language. Advertisements—even in another dimension you can not escape them.
Laura found that she was starving, when had she eaten? Her watch told her hours ago. Laura ate the potpie thing—which tasted more like taco salad somehow—as Ega showed her the bag and it's contents.
"If your going to be traveling your going to need some supplies and a good bag to carry it in." Ega raised the good bag to show Laura with a determined face. Apparently Laura was also going to be free advertising. Ega took out a map.
"This is an absolute must if you ever have to travel across the Foundplace. The Foundplace moves important places around from time to time or trades them around. The map changes with the land, much easier to do since the Foundplace is as flat as a board. And I don't just mean the landscape, I mean the entire world is flat instead of a globe or a square, but flat! Oh, and Newfound is very desolate outside cites and towns! I made sure to pack you with plenty of food and water and a little extra." Ega smiled lovingly. Maybe even a little sadly. "I really hope the council will help you and be able to return you to your home."
Laura smiled back.
"Thank you miss Gobx. I really appreciate your help." Laura wanted to continue to thank Ega, but found her self at a loss of words. Ega's kindness touched Laura's fragile heart that had so recently suffered with out a thing being done to her. Laura was chocked up and managed to breath out one more  thank you before she stopped.
